New quests are released! Sign-ups will open officially on the 3rd of this month, so until then, here's a plotting post for you all to get your Duckletts in a row! Before we hop right into things, though, here are the tallies from total quest points!

ICly, Rankings will show the points earned of all Pokemon in guilds, including NPC Pokemon not listed here OOCly. We didn't list guild leaders this time, but might in the future for fun. Keep in mind that quests available to player characters are not the entire pool of quests, and that some are likely snatched up before they can get to them regularly, which is how points vary and how some guilds pull ahead even without much player help. However, over time, player points will certainly affect the standing of guilds! Without further ado, here are the characters in ranking order by guild:

QUEST UPDATES & IMPORTANT NOTICES

Hello everyone! We have some quest-related updates and requests to make.

First: we've recently been noticing a trend where, on occasion, some character pairs will submit for a significant amount of quests together - and one or both characters will have few if any quests with different CR. While we understand that this is IC for many characters and players would like to acknowledge those relationships, this is against the spirit of quests, which are meant to encourage building or progressing a variety of CR. Light quests currently don't require threads in order to accommodate for energetic characters who would ICly be very active, even if a player can't keep up. We'd still like this handwaved activity to involve engaging with many players/characters in order to earn points, however!

While we aren’t explicitly tracking this right now, we’re requesting that players avoid doing a large number of quests with the same partner in a single month. For those characters who would ICly do a lot together, you are very welcome to say that they are still doing additional quests offscreen!

Related: if a quest is being repeated, and all characters involved have already submitted for it with another group, there's no need to actually submit the quest! Points for each individual character are only counted once, and we're not currently tracking any further than that. You may just thread or handwave it!

Second: starting in January 2026, characters are only allowed to take on one heavy quest per month. As the game continues to grow, we're looking for ways to keep the mod workload manageable while still allowing for characters to have customized experiences, and this is one of those ways!

There is an in character explanation for this as well! As characters and players likely noticed: last month, for the first time in a long while, the Guild Rankings shuffled around, with the Oran Berries overtaking the Lum Berries... and the guild leaders have all been reacting to this!

Mightyena is extremely proud of her guild, and has been trotting around with her tail up and wagging all month. Those who see her regularly may notice she's also had something of an anxious air when caught unawares, though - is it just that she's not used to being in this position? If any members who have been around a bit longer question her about it, she's willing to confide - while she's proud of her guild members, she's started to get worried that some are overworking themselves, and will burn themselves out or become too tired to keep safe on dangerous quests. Some of her more ambitious guild members seem to be holding up very well, but eventually that has to run out! And she's also had many members land in the clinic; some have yet to emerge. (If Mightyena is being talked to in the Spire, characters may catch her trying and failing to keep from shooting concerned looks at the doorway to a specific room, where there's a feathery and grass-scented shared nest.)

Polteageist, on the other hand, has been restraining a foul mood nearly the entire time, with only short breaks when they got into the Longest Night spirit. They're used to the Lum Berries being on top and having the resources to match! While nobody in town actually seems inclined to take away any of the Lum Berries' privileges - after all, they still run the clinic and the Archives, and it's only to be expected that the smallest guild won't always have the most points - guild members close to Polteageist may comment on them staying up at their desk late into the night and morning, muttering irritably as they work through bureaucratic tasks.

Lastly, Ribombee seems outwardly unconcerned about his guild's standing - he's quick to say that the Cheri Berries do plenty of work for the town, and everyone who's paying attention knows it! If they don't do the most highly awarded tasks like the Lum Berries... well, someone still has to do the unglamorous selfless work, and the Cheri Berries should be proud of themselves no matter the guild's standing in the rankings. If someone does bring up guild rankings to him, he might even be seen to roll his eyes; he's more concerned about performance within the guild! However, he grows more thoughtful toward the end of December, after Mightyena talks with him about her worries - after all, the Cheris have as many members in the clinic as the Orans.

Regardless of their individual motivations, the guild leaders gather together at the beginning of January to make an announcement. They're going to start restricting how many heavy quests guild members are allowed to take on! With the boom in membership from the native Pokemon and everyone who has been transformed into a Pokemon, they're not anticipating that there will be any issues with quest fulfillment even with this policy. But if there are, they can always adjust again in the future.

INCOMING EVENTS

The snow this month is heavy and annoyingly persistent, and it seems that if anyone new arrives they’ll just have to deal with the mountains of cold. But there’s newer things on the horizon as well - or at least, that’s what the Grumpig brothers claim! With so much work cleared from the plate, maybe it’ll give you something new to do!

Or maybe something will go wrong again, and all of your dreams and nightmares will be put on blast.

Not really a question, but I just wanted to thank you for running this game for almost a whole year, even with assistance help! I've really enjoyed the story told though events and quests, and especially love the quest system. I'm excited to see what happens in the next year!

Slowly adjusting sad-lad. May he one day be less sad. It certainly helps that the holidays went well for him, but Emporio is a very smart, very kind boy who came from a hell of a background and has thus been settling in at the bay like a ducklett to water. We're coming up on one year of Bottlecap, which means one year of him being here, and there's only a few changes in what he's doing- obviously thanks to the Guild Leaders he's not doing As many quests, but he still helps out at the clinic, reads a whole lot, and thanks to all his presents especially loves a Baseball. He's REALLY smart, picking up most things just from reading it, but he won't brag about it or anything so far as most are concerned, he's probably just a clever little guy.

PLANS:

Life has continued to eat at me for like...Two consecutive months by way of stress, so I'm going to try and focus on the things I enjoy! Emporio's gotten the go-ahead to have a house, but he won't immediately move in yet because for Lums that means actually building the dang thing. WOW!

This is good because uh, with all the snow, Emporio doesn't really have a good reason to go outside, even if he Did receive a bunch of baseball equipment. Instead, he'll probably be workshopping floorplans with everyone, come join him and the angry bird for that!

For all that he's not going to be picking up As Many Quests (really doesn't need to), depending on the available player quests this month, he's probably going to be available for some of those! As well, if someone REALLY REALLY REALLY wants him to come along for one, he will join them for one of those Mod Quests.

The chill and put together weirdo of a Dragonite, who's been slowly adapting to a calmer world, but never properly will. He got back his duster from SINTO, or from a blessing from God, alongside his other clothes. So he's just happy to keep chilling, being a tired old man.

Ssh. Me and Luka have something Fun planned, but other then that! Perrin will likely want to do all of the quests, and I think especially he'll be fascinated by the friendship of a Seviper and Zangoose. He'll also be oddly satisfied working on the roadway, having come out from the Archives.

A bit of it is to fight torpor even now, and another bit of it is trying to prove to Polteageist that he's still working as hard as possible. Between this, you might hear rumours of him wanting to set up a workshop of sorts... (This is a long-term plan for Team Obsidian, to have a workshop to create knick-knacks for people. Him and his Oran buddy!)

ABOUT:

Do you like traumatized teenagers who make poor life choices? Then do I have news for you!

Goro Akechi suffered an awful life due to societal stigmas against illegitimate children and the children of sex workers, made worse by his mother's death and years cycling through orphanages and neglectful foster homes. Eventually he awakened a power he barely understood and, jaded by a life of pain, decided to hatch a stupid revenge plan against his father that led to him effectively being a child assassin masquerading as a prettyboy detective. Fun!

Akechi has since dropped his "detective prince" mask and is now a very jaded, aloof, and serious person who is still fiercely determined to prove himself, uncover the mysteries of this world. He sees this world as a fresh start and is trying to be a better person, but is highly suspicious of certain a uthority figures like Ribombee and, to a certain extent, Polteageist. He, Ren, and Flowey also kinda sorta have an unofficial detective trio thing going.

Oh, and he's one of the two guild members Mightyena has a Concern about now. Kehehe...

PLANS:

Akechi is taking his boyfriend with him to High Tier housing, and he is living for it. That being said, it means he's going to have to relocate his conspiracy board, which might take a little time. Oran members are likely to see him shuffling about with notes, strings, and other odds and ends as he migrates his and Ren's belongings.

As far as quests go, he is doing Wherefore Art Thou?? with Ren, but otherwise is wide open to other quest partners! For Bouffa-Load, Akechi has his air-based attacks to help clear snow (as well as Drill Peck), for Nutty Buddies, he's very adept at finding and caching goodies due to being a bird, and as fighter, he is eager to take on Eevasive Maneuvers!

In spite of her friendliness and can-do attitude, she's still hopelessly homesick. She's just coping with it a lot better. Also, she has her clothes back!

Me and Kururu have a little surprise planned for the TDM but other than that I'll take it as it comes. I might be preoccupied with college because we're doing GAMES DESIGN AT LAST and I'm very normal about that. As far as quests go, I'd like to do them all, and maybe with some different people for CR! Parvati herself is probably most interested in Bouffa-Load, surprising absolutely nobody. I'd also like to do some CR building on the TDM since that's my main focus. Oh! And I'm getting a Home Object for Parvati as soon as I remember to (which won't be after I write this let me tell you!) so keep an eye out for that probable Network post.

Oh boy, time to condense this Fae Queen's background! Now, Dolly has been tossed about as of recently from her original home on Tir Na Nog, to Earth, then to Doriene by accident, and now the Pokemon World. After getting sorted into Lum Berry, Dolly has been having a pretty good and easy time adjusting with her guild mates along with getting glasses crafted for her. Even better, Dolly has learned about there being other non human characters and is starting to relax more. She now has her astrolabe! Dolly is very happy with it right now...for now..she's in for a bad time soon.

Heading into the personality department, Dolly most of the time, is pretty reserved in her own right, only letting loose her enthusiasm and excitement when something of her interests comes up. Dolly likes to keep calm and see if things can be talked through first before getting into fights. Dolly is very much full of wonder about the world around now that she is out for the first time. Sharing fun stories, especially ghost stories, are a very good way of getting Dolly to like people and in return will share stories that she knows of. Dolly is afraid of the dark thanks to where she came from and can get anxious at times. She can also sass a bit when the right buttons are pushed. The only time Dolly will fight is if she’s being threatened and even then, Dolly is the kind to hold back big time to avoid doing serious harm. Should be noted, Dolly likes to pun, a lot...

A.B.A is a socially awkward homunculus who spent the first ten years of her life locked up in a mansion all alone. This has caused her to develop an intense fascination with keys, so much so that she declared herself married to a sentient battle axe simply because he looked like one. Her isolation has made her timid and shy, so to counteract this, she's prone to acting belligerent and authoritative. Her hope is that people don't think she's as lost and confused as she really is, but this often does the exact opposite.

Luckily, A.B.A thrives as a Pokémon, and doesn't feel the need to posture as much since most Pokémon are smaller than she is. She's hoping she can use every successful interaction as a lesson she can bring back home, when she finally reunites with her beloved Paracelsus, and show him just how far she's grown on her own. I admit, my A.B.A drive is pretty low right now, and I don't know why I keep telling myself I can do things like play two characters at the same time. That said, I really want to keep going with her, she's gotta lot of points and my dream is for her to get mid tier housing one day. Plus the idea of putting her in a coma again breaks my heart. Weh.

So, uh, quests! I'll gobble down anything handwaved. Bouffa-load, Nutty Buddies, and Eeveesive Maneuvers are all things she'd be interested in doing. She'd be especially interested in Wherefore Art Thou?? simply because she'd assume the pair are married and would want to reunite the lovers talk about how her relationship is superior, let's be real.

A perpetually cheerful youkai doctor and veterinarian, who does his absolute best to be as kind and helpful to others as possible! He already owned multiple hospitals back in his own world, and now he spends most of his time supporting the clinic.

But while he genuinely means well, Akira severely lacks any empathy or understanding of what's wrong or right, and can lose control when he's too excited...

PLANS:

Open to any of the quests, however as with last month, Akira will still refuse to help with salting roads since it's directly harmful to anyone that walks over it.

For threads, I'm looking forward to the event, so mostly going to focus on current and network threads until then! I always prioritize tags over OOC comments, so as usual, I'd heavily prefer any involved plotting to be done over Discord where I can respond faster (minutes as opposed to weeks). Otherwise, please feel free to just link to anywhere you want Akira, so I can throw him in and we'll see where things go!

Laios has always struggled to fit in, but despite his experiences (or more likely because of them), he's far more kind and accepting than most would give him credit for. He may not know how to show it correctly, but he genuinely means well and holds every friendship he does manage to make very close to his heart.

Also. He has an impressive dog impersonation. He's very excited to show it off as an actual dog. Why wouldn't you want to be his friend because he's still an absolute weirdo, that's why.

PLANS:

Now that all the fesitivities from last month have wrapped up, he's not going to have many distractions from the Bad Thoughts anymore. He'll be spending a lot of time outside of town either looking for Fireheart or hunting bigger game than normal, so don't expect him around Bottlecap Bay or the Canopy proper. At least he's still open for questing or sparring, if asked! Wait, what was that about dreams and nightmares...

(He also got his best sword Kensuke back, so he'll probably be lugging that around too in the most ridiculous way possible. Feel free to look and ask what that's all about, but don't touch!)

Nutty Buddies and Eeveesive Maneuvers are probably the best picks for him, but I'm always open for any player quests that pop up too. Otherwise, generally keeping January a lighter month for me outside of the TDM!

Enigmatic Spinarak-turned-Hatenna who normally fails to introduce herself and has only referred to herself as "Hatenna" openly when asked. Fond of soup. Surprisingly chatty when she's not having to just grab a nap in her storage cupboard when coming into too strong a radius of strong emotions... you know, that migraine-o-meter, don't worry about it? Though if the emotions of others are too concentrated in an area she can't avoid, she's been known to been found barely conscious at times...

She's trying out this new "being encouraging" instead of "being bullying" mindset even if some people just end up being too trollable... mostly just trying to balance extreme emotions in her vicinity to deal. She keeps a lot personal to herself due to her own issues, but she also can't quite process certain personal aspects about herself either, resulting in deflecting a lot to avoid dealing with any of her own issues, usually by going on lots of varying missions all of the time. It's fine :) Don't worry about it :). Aside from that, she has made a point of looking after both Guilmon and Aegiomon respectively.

Most of the usual - continuing to build CR/following up on anything ongoing. She does tend to hover around the board areas at times to pick up quests to keep busy, if anyone doesn't mind the +1 psychic hat teaming along, she's a known reliable workaholic at this point, probably, even if she does prefer exploring over the physical work but shhh. Beside that, he's still side-eyeing the guild leaders and their division overall. Who is benefiting from the competition and the need to compare who's in the lead? He's not sure anyone, especially the settlements themselves, are.

Kinger was originally a human, a long time ago, but for the last unknown amount of time (implied to be decades) he has been trapped in the digital avatar of a chess piece inside of a digital realm from which there is no escape. Which is why it took him a while to accept that he had, in fact, escaped into a different fantasy realm. Kinger has incredibly poor memory and focus, only being able to gather his thoughts when he's in the dark.

The arrival of modern technology from SINTO(?) and Kinger learning a little more about Psychic and Fairy abilities through the Grumpearl and Polteageist's Morelull information has made Kinger realize he might be able to make himself useful by combining his Earth knowledge with his new Pokémon magic.

PLANS:

Going to be test driving Robin from One Piece this month, but I still plan on being pretty active with Kinger. I'm going to put up some catch-all prompts at some point before the TDM with Kinger trying to develop his skills more. I'd like to work towards Kinger learning Trick Room in the next couple months to make a portable psychic pillow fort that allows him to stay focused in any environment, but this month I'll probably work on him picking up some more basic support moves.

As far as quests, I feel like the only one Kinger would sign up for confidently would be Nutty Buddies, but if someone wants to do another one for CR I am down. I'm also down with any sort of CR, especially with people Kinger hasn't talked to before. Impmon started off as a vicious little jackass. His tamers were a pair of toddler siblings who constantly fought over him and took him for granted, so he rejected them and rejected humans altogether, but envied other Digimon who partnered with humans because of their power to digivolve and their positive relationships with the humans in question.

Desperate for the power to digivolve, he made a deal with some powerful Digimon in exchange for the ability to become Beelzemon, an insanely powerful Digimon. Drunk on power, he confronted the other Digimon and humans, killed one of the partner Digimon, and was narrowly defeated. The partner of the Digimon he killed fell into despair and became a vessel/power source for the D-Reaper, an out-of-control program that wanted to delete reality. Impmon got several reality checks, reconciled with his tamers, and helped the other Digimon fight the D-Reaper, almost dying in the process. As a result, he's... trying to be a better person now. Key word is "trying."

He's decided that he likes making soap, so he's gonna be a little obsessed with that for a while.

PLANS:

Settling down from his good mood from Christmas, Anasui will be helping Emporio prepare the plans for their new house. Yes, it's using Emporio's points. Yes, Polteageist has already told Anasui that if they live together, Anasui won't get his own house. Yes, Anasui will be pissed off. Don't worry about it ;)

As Anasui likes to keep busy, he'll be available for all quests. I'm also looking for someone to do the Player Quest 'Morepeko More Problems' because Yakuza-esque side stories are soooooo JJBA-coded.

If my TM move gets approved, I'll have Anasui learn freeze-dry, so I may have a log or a quest (or both!) that involves people collecting berries (or other things) for him so he can practice the move. So look out for that!

Imagine someone took Disney's entire canon, put it in a blender, and then scattered it all over an original princess fairy tale setting, and you get the Sofia the First universe. Then imagine a scrawny royal sorcerer whom everyone thought was a screwup because of one childhood misunderstanding, so he tried to take over his boss' kingdom as a desperate attempt to prove his worth.

Now imagine that instead he was thwarted by the love of a seven-to-twelve-year-old child just because she was the only one with unwavering faith in his abilities and even called out those who doubted him. Sounds pathetic, right? Except it worked, and with newfound external confidence, he improved, to the point where he was the one who successfully conjured a spell to save that same child from eternal confinement in her own amulet, the same one he was initially pursuing for domination. All he lost in return was his longtime raven companion who now thinks he's a wuss.

PLANS:

So there are a few things going on with this not-so-bad boy this month:

1) He got an evolution stone in November, and last month people kindly gifted him even more stones so now he has a full-blown collection. He'll be proudly displaying them near his sleeping quarters in Oran's low-tier housing, so not everyone will see them on the regular but they could be relevant in the future. More importantly, his SINTO buddy gifted him a Dusk Stone and he's actually borderline terrified of it. Don't tell anyone, but he's really torn about the idea of turning into a big fat Honchkrow.

2) In case I continue to suck at activity this month, I'm going to again take it easy on quests for the guy. With that in mind, I'm offering him up for Eeeveesive Maneuvers and Morpeko, More Problems (he wants to help his buddy Bigby).

3) I'm 200% investing in the dreamshare nonsense, so look out for that when it shows up.

4) There's no exact date for it, but word of God says that early January is Cedric's birthday! (How old? Ehhhh, we'll say 37.) The bad news is that he's probably not going to tell anyone about this on a whim; the good news is that the man is not subtle and friends will probably see him sighing about it as we get closer to the date. So if someone close enough wants to throw him a surprise party, it's not impossible, and obviously I won't be picky about dates if we wind up having a log for it.

Sanji was a very talented, surly chef back in his world! He cooked delicious meals for the Strawhat Pirates, and was. Essentially a line-cook for a floating restaurant before that. His love language is cooking but also yelling and kicking you so uh good luck?? At least becoming a vulpix with stubby legs makes the kicking part less bad?

Sanji is very kind in that he wants to make sure everyone is fed and healthy, even if he's yelling at you about it the whole time. Self sacrificial, flirty, French, very lacking in the self worth department, and likes to keep busy!! You've likely seen him hitting the markets asking about pokemon recipes and such, carrying ingredients, and throwing food together. He's all about that food, and the first to get nervous if food stores are low because ✨trauma✨.

Anyway he has wayyyy more energy than me and I'm always looking for reasons to make him take breaks because he sure won't <3

As for quests! I'm open to new CRs for sure! And old! Light quests will probably be handwavy to make way for the TDM I think... I like all the quests! I think I'm most interested in Nutty Buddies and Eveesive Maneuvers! Sanji's very easy to just toss anywhere, he'll make sure everyone's fed and things will get done. He may be a BIT groggy due to like a week long sleep (I took a LITTLE hiatus last month, it was rough. We survived.) but he should catch up quickly enough. I think if Mightyena mentions any sort of worry he will slow down. He adores his guild leader lmao. He also got some awesome gifts!! He was not expecting any tbh, guy is gonna make so much bread. And he's got a little suit (it's kinda sparkly) and a brush so you wouldn't even be able to tell he slept for a week! Everything is fine.
